So for anyone who is wondering the title of my last post and this post are negative days. I'm trying to figure out how to explain it and have it make sense...Day -8 was my first day of preconditioning (chemo/radiation) treatment to wipe out my stem cells, I will have 8 days of preconditioning and these days are known as negative days. On the day I receive my new stem cells, this is referred to as Day 0 or my "Re-Birthday". Everyday after that is known as a positive day (Day +1, Day +2, etc). At Day +100 I should be allowed to go home, assuming I am recovering as expected (which I will be)! :)
Today is Day -7 and begins my next round of chemo, I have receiving fluids since 5:00am this morning!! The type of chemo I am receiving today is very intense, it could actually be very damaging to my kidneys, hence the need for fluids since first thing this morning. In fact as I sit here typing this, I am receiving the high intensity chemo and it's burning my sinuses. It kind of feels like I've snorted up a bunch of water...ouch!! Other than that the day has been pretty uneventful, the nurses come by every couple of hours to check my vitals and yes this includes the middle of the night too. And at midnight, not only do they wake me for vitals, but they also do a blood draw and make me get out of my bed to check my weight, good times!!
It's been a good day, no complaints, just looking at it as one day closer to going home!! Until tomorrow everyone, have a good evening!
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, in case you didn't already figure it out, I was able to check into the hospital last night at 7:00p. I feel a lot better about being here, I wasn't prepared to have to look after myself the way the nursing staff does.
Oh and did I mention that my sinuses burn like crazy!!! :{
Jeannine,
ReplyDeleteThey're giving you the anti-nausea meds because that's the big difficulty with what you're doing right now.
Don't worry about your anxiety. It might be useful to keep a little personal journal for yourself and write these things down. Somehow jotting them down seems to defuse them. Also, you can also write down your impressions of the various anti-nausea meds they might give you. Generally, they try a garden variety. I liked some more than others.
Just trust the nurses and doctors. In particular, let the nurses know anything you need. They are your friends. And sleep as much as you can. Your body has a challenge right now and rest is helpful.
And by all means keep drinking fluids and anything with calories. It may become difficult to eat a lot and keeping up the drinks is a big advantage. Kidney help too!
Thinking about you!
